Places to Visit
Thimphu
Thimphu being the capital city of Bhutan has many historical and important sites. The Tashichho Dzong is the main secretariat building and the summer residence of the king.
The Memorial Chorten is a stupa that was built in memory of the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and it is a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike to pray and find tranquility.
The Motithang Takin Preserve is a wildlife reserve for Takins, Bhutan’s national animal. The preserve is a great place to hike as well with beautiful scenery.
Paro
The Tiger’s Nest Monastery is one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. It is perched on a cliff-side at 3,120 meters (10,240 feet). This is a must visit place for anyone visiting Bhutan.
Haa Valley is a beautiful and less crowded valley, known for its traditional villages and stunning scenery.
Punakha
The Punakha Dzong is considered to be one of the most beautiful dzong in Bhutan. It is located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. It is also the winter residence of the central monk body.
The Dochula Pass is a scenic pass with 108 chortens, offering views of the eastern Himalayas, especially during clear days.
The Wangdi Phodrang Dzong was damaged by fire in 2023, but the ruins still stand tall, offering an insight into Bhutanese architecture. The Dzong is located on a hill and is known for its location at the confluence of two rivers.
The Phobjikha valley is a famous winter habitat of the endangered black-necked cranes and it is a peaceful area to explore nature.
