This itinerary is perfect for those with limited time who still want a taste of Bhutan’s unique culture, history and breathtaking landscapes. In less than a week you will cover the country’s stunning western valleys, explore historic sites and learn about our pioneering wine project.
Day 1: Arrival at Paro airport-
Arrive at Paro International Airport where your guide and driver await.
Take a short detour to Shari Vineyard where you can enjoy a glass of wine and take in your peaceful surroundings of Bhutan’s first vines.
Check into Hotel Zhiwaling, a fully Bhutanese-owned property celebrated for its traditional architecture and warm hospitality.
Day 2: Full Day Paro-
Hike to Taktsang Monastery- Hike to Bhutan’s most iconic landmark, a monastery clinging to a cliffside 900 meters above the valley floor. According to legend Guru Padmasabhava flew to this site on the back of a tigress and meditated in the cliffside caves, subduing evil spirits and sanctifying the location.
The climb to the monastery takes approximately 3 hours at a comfortable pace. The climb down is fairly easy and can be done in an hour or less. Midway, we will pause at a scenic cafeteria for refreshments (tea and coffee). After exploring the monastery and soaking in the views, we will enjoy a packed picnic lunch.
If you still have energy after the hike, you can take a short cycle ride to Drugyel Dzong.
Day 3: Cycle/ Drive from Paro to Thimphu-
Enjoy the scenic journey from Paro to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu. While the direct distance is approximately 49 km and the road is mostly flat and ideal for cycling, though there are stretches with gentle climbs.
Wherever the terrain allows, we will cycle- and for the steeper sections, your support bus will be right behind you. Feel free to hop on the bus at any point if you need a break.
Upon reaching Babesa, on the southern edge of Thimphu, everyone will board the bus for the final ascent to Zhiwaling Ascent Hotel, as the incline becomes quite steep.
Simply Bhutan- Visit this interactive “living museum” offering an immersive introduction to traditional art and culture.
Royal Textile Museum- Discover the intricate art of weaving, a craft central to Bhutanese identity and heritage.
Day 4: Full Day Thimphu Sightseeing-
Tango and Cheri Monasteries- Cycle or drive to these sacred monasteries located just outside the city. The route winds through lush rhododendron forests and rural landscapes, offering a peaceful and immersive ride into the spiritual heart of the Thimphu valley.
Buddha Dordenma– Gaze up at the 51-meter bronze Buddha overlooking the valley, housing 125,000 smaller gilded statues.
National Memorial Chorten- Witness locals circumambulating and offering prayers at the revered stupa built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan.
Day 5: Journey to Punakha and Wangduephodrang-
Head eastward to the lush valleys of Punakha and Wangduephodrang, known for their warmer, sub-tropical climate and serene river landscapes.
Ser Bhum Vineyard and Brewery- Quick visit to this local brewery where you can enjoy their high-quality craft beers and learn more about brewing.
Dochula Pass- Stop at 3,100 meters for breathtaking 360-degree views of the Himalayas and the 108 memorial stupas. Weather permitting, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. We’ll stop for a short tea/coffee break at the Dochula Cafeteria.
From Dochula, the journey descends into the valleys, and you will switch to our Brompton bikes to enjoy a picturesque downhill ride towards Punakha. The ride winds through temperate forests and mountain villages, offering a refreshing and immersive experience.
Lunch will be served at Menchuna Restaurant, located midway to Punakha.
Check into Lobesa Boutique Hotel and rest for the evening.
Day 6: Punakha to Paro-
River rafting- To celebrate your last day in Bhutan, we begin with a morning of exhilarating river rafting with stunning views of Punakha Dzong. The ride lasting 30 to 40 minutes, offers a thrilling but safe way to enjoy the river’s beauty.
Lunch stop at a charming traditional farmhouse owned by Aum Toeb Zam, renowned for her warm hospitality and authentic Bhutanese cuisine.
After checking into Resort Thim-Dorji (River Front) in Paro you will visit the majestic Paro Rinpung Dzong, followed by a leisurely stroll through Paro for your final souvenir shopping.
To mark the end of your journey, enjoy a dinner by the bonfire.
